Vernon Sharp
This book is compiled of the events, stories, and happenings which have woven the fabric of our lives. We have felt a need to preserve the heritage we have received, and know of no better way than to record important stories, events, and experiences for our children, grandchildren, and the generations to come.
The life stories, childhood, and spiritual experiences have been given by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and many unnamed sources. Of course, we will miss some items, but we have provided for additional information and corrections in the blank pages at the back of the volume.
We would like to encourage all who read this to keep a diary of at least the important events in your life and to keep a record of events for each of your children in their youth that will help them in writing their history later on in life. We would encourage you to keep important letters and photographs. Be sure dates and names are recorded on the backs of photographs and letters. Wehave tried to recall events to the best of our ability; and with the help of letters, photographs, publications, and histories, we feel the accounts are reasonably accurate.
Wewere reared in a good home of goodly parents, where a proper example was always set and the spirit of the gospel was prevalent. Family prayers were the order of the day as was the blessing of the food. We were devoted to each other as brother and sisters, though our ages are 7 years apart — except Patty who was 14 months behind Carol. We were always encouraged and given opportunities for advancement in all we did.
We are very fortunate to have been born into this family and hope the gratitude we feel can be expressed in some small way as we present this book to our parents — Vernon Sharp and Velva Morrison Sharp — on the 60th anniversary 1924 (Diamond Jubilee) of their wedding which took place April 12, 1924.
